Friday Fun!

This past Friday was the first day at my mom’s group. I’m co-leading a class through this book called The Kingdom Experiment. It is an creditable book! I dare you to read experience it – it might just change your life.

Anyways, it was the first day, so it was mostly introductions (to each other  and the book). So afterwards I had “craft” time planned. Each of us personalized our books’ with letter stickers and then made these fun bookmarks.

Here’s a picture of one I made when I got home:

Ribbon Bookmarks

The materials I used are:

* Ribbon

* Clear buttons – round and square (from Stampin’ Up)

* Colored eyelets (used eyelet setting tool to punch hole in ribbon and set eyelets)

To get started:

1 – Cut the ribbon the length of the book you want the bookmark for, plus 3″

2 – Fold one end of the ribbon under (about 1/2″)

3 – Punch a small hole with the eyelet tool kit

4 – Set the eyelet of your choice (the stores as well as companies like Stampin’ Up have different shaped eyelets as well – supper cute!)

5 – On the other end thread the ribbon through the button (you can tie a knot at the end if you want. I did with one of mine).

**On the orange ribbon bookmark I first stamped the button with crafting ink (or you can use stays-on ink) and then embossed it. I LOVE EMBOSSING!**

I did these two ribbons in about 10 minutes (with my 13 month old playing in the background). This is a fun project to do with some “Book Club” friends, or to give a simple, but creative and thoughtful gift. ENJOY!

A picture of the bookmark in use (the book is my The Kingdom Experiment book). The bookmark in the picture is the one that my Aunt gave to me and what sparked the idea for this craft.

Bookmark in good use!

My first Skip 1…

Every year for birthdays and Christmas, people in my family send each other wish lists. I’m sure this is nothing strange or different from what a lot of other people do.

I was slacking this year (and by slacking I mean my birthday is tomorrow and no list has been sent). I have a feeling there are people in my family upset with me for not sending anything.  I hope there can be forgiveness after this post.

I had a great plan for my birthday this year, but in the busyness of life and being in the middle of helping plan some different events, I simply ran out of time. At first, I thought I should just give in and do what I do every year – send out a list, have a nice dinner and a drink with my husband, and eat some cake with my boys – maybe even some friends and family. But on Monday I came across a friend’s blog posting of the day. It was for an organization called Skip1.org.  It’s quite simple really: They encourage you to skip 1 thing for 1 day then take the money you would have spent on those things and donate instead to Skip1.org.

So that’s what I’m doing this year – I’m skipping my birthday and giving that money to Invisible People. Invisible People is an amazing organization that is giving a voice and a face to homelessness. It is something that had been heavy on my heart for a long time. If you’d like to help me SKIP my birthday, please visit Invisible People and find out how you can give or met a need.

Or buy a large bag of socks and attach a gift card to a Target/Walmart and give it to a homeless man or woman in your town.

I invite you – Skip 1 TODAY.

I meant Chinese New Years…

So, the last time I posted was in January, which means I totally FAILED on one of my new years resolutions.  But, I decided to cut myself some slack and have a fresh start…

HAPPY CHINESE NEW YEAR
