My Letter

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28 – My hope, my prayer…to be an catalyst that helps to bring this rest to the people of Nkhoma – physically, emotionally and spiritually.

Dear Family and Friends –

This is a picture of a little guy from Malawi Africa! I loved this picture and had to share it will you. Recently I heard an quote that has touched my heart – “Poverty is not a statistic, it has a face.” This little guy is one of those faces! I have an amazing opportunity to go to Nkhoma, Malawi this summer with my church (Newsong) and help children just like this little boy.

I’ve been thinking a lot about what I wanted to say in this letter.  I feel there are many things, many years and many people that have poured into this opportunity – it is hard to say it all in one space.
My story starts with a friend of mine in January asking me if I’d be interested in going to Malawi this summer. Her ask had more impact than she knows. Since high school I’ve gone on missions trips to Latin countries. I even was able to do a couple medical missions in college while I was studying to be a nurse. Since becoming a nurse in 2005 I’ve been SEEKING opportunities to do more medical mission trips, but it was never the right time (2 kids in 3 years can totally change things!). My friends “ask” reignited my passion and excitement for going abroad and using my medical skills to help.  After a lot of prayer, talking with Scott, and a few other things that needed to happen for me to go happened in perfect time, I turned in my application to go to Nkhoma, Malawi Africa.

While in Malawi my focus will be on serving the medical needs of the community. The specific details of what I will be doing are still up in the air (which is torture for the nurse in me). What I do know is that they have a hospital, clinics, and care facilities for victims of AIDS/HIV that all need help. I can’t tell you how excited I am to be apart of this team! I am apart of a team that is bringing new life to an entire community in sustainable ways. This community where we are traveling to – Nkhoma, Malawi – is also the community our church is supporting holistically: building wells, schools, sponsoring kids (many of which are orphans), providing “care giver” bundles that have supplies to care for an AIDS victim for one year, talking Bibles in their native language. I am overwhelmed too because this is much bigger than myself and what I have to bring and yet blessed enough to play a role in helping to establish lasting change that prayerfully will carry into generations to come.

Our trip is 2 weeks long: July 28th to August 14th. There are a couple of ways that you can be a partner with me in this trip. First, I need prayer! Prayer for myself and my teams safety, health, wisdom to see the needs and the opportunities to meet those needs that arise. Second, I need to raise $3,500 for this trip. These funds go to airfare, food, lodging, and resources needed for projects. Will you join with me on this journey to bring NEW LIFE to this community by committing to pray, make a financial donation or both! To make a financial donation please click HERE. And yes, your donation is tax deductible!

Exciting things are happening for the people of Nkhoma, Malawi. Thank you for your partnership and support! It truly means a lot to me! I will be keeping everyone updated via my blog about preparing for Malawi. Also, if you would like to know more about what I’m doing, my story of how this mission came about or even why in the world I would be going to Africa I would love to talk to you more about it. Feel free to email me or call or we can even sit down and talk over some coffee!

Blessings…
