Malawi Trip Video

Newsong Church Unleash Campaign – Malawi Update [Newsong Irvine | 09.27.2010] from Newsong Church on Vimeo.

WOW! Even though my trip to Malawi was not that long ago, watching this video brought tears to my eyes. It has been (and probable will continue to be) a LONG journey of processing my experience in Africa. Many times I have felt so numb since I’ve been back. I’m not sure if it’s God’s grace over my heart and spirit because what we saw and experienced was intense and at times overwhelming…

I still have a hard time finding the words to express what I did, what I saw, and what I learned. I’m positive there is more that God wants for me to learn and internalized…just unsure of what it is right now.

What God has showed me so far…

The Malawi people are a BEATIFUL people! So welcoming and giving, even though they have so little physical positions in our understanding. I loved how my friend Angela put it::

“Malawi’s wealth is in it’s people!!”

Angela was so beautifully able to put to words what I feel in the whole last part of this video.

Though my 2 weeks in Malawi are over, this journey only began the moment my feet touched Malawian soil and will continue long after I have landed back in the States.

Please continue to prayer for the people of Malawi…God has always been there and will continue to move in mighty ways. His LOVE for them is contagious…surely I have caught that bug. I feel BLESSED that God has allowed me to be apart of what His is doing around the world in such a personally way.

There is only ONE word that could give you a true understanding of Malawi, it’s people and it’s past and future…

GO!!!!

Here is my prayer before, during and long after my trip. I pray it will be yours too! I Will Go

Nkhoma Hospital

We didn’t get alot of pictures of the hospital…we already stood out BIG TIME. It was impossible to be discrete about snapping photos. But I wanted at lest something to bring back that showed where Robyn, Alex and I worked over the 2 weeks. So here’s the little video tour of the Pediatric Ward that we work on most days. The facility, the patients, families, and our new nursing FRIENDS!

Leavin’ on a jet plane…

I can’t believe we are here…it feels a little surreal. So please keep our team in your prayers. We are now starting our 20+ hrs of flying.

Also, if you were thinking and wanting to support me and our team we are still short about $7,000 as a team for this trip, and we would love to have you join us in this journey!!!!! Check out the Malawi tab – support me! To find out how to give

From the Heart of Kids…

I leave for Nkhoma, Malawi tomorrow with my team for 2.5 weeks. I’m so excited to be going to the place, to the people that the well from Kuvina is going to be built!!! This connection to Malawi has been an incredible journey already…I am excited to see how these next weeks unfold.

I wanted to share this post that one of friends (a mom of 2 Kuvina artists and also going to Malawi) posted today! Another reminder of the beautiful hearts kids have…

My bag is packed!
As I was packing, Ryan was helping me by bringing large ziplocs to use. He took one and said, “Mommy, I need this one.”
He then told me he was using it so I could bring it to Malawi. So I go back to packing, not paying attention to what was going on.
Three minutes later, he said, “Mommy, I spilled some of the water out of the bag. Sorry, mom.”
Okay, what is he doing?? I go into the bathroom and he tells me he wants Yoweli and Happy (our sponsor children) to be healthy. He says he wants safe water for us to drink. He then says he doesn’t understand why the water can’t go in the suitcase!
Amazing how much my kids have paid attention, especially when I didn’t know they were listening! (Post by Robyn Baran)

This summer I have the AMAZING opportunity to do a Medical Mission to Nkhoma, Malawi. And you heard me right…it is about 25 hour and multiple plane trip to this village in Malawi, Africa.

Yet, I can’t be more excited about this trip  with Y-Malawi and my church Newsong – I get to actually met, physically touch and help the kids that many of my friends sponsor through World Vision. I get to see where the water well we are trying to build through Kuvina::an art auction will be built. And I get to use my nursing skills to help people on the other side of the globe, which has been my passion and inspiration for going into nursing.  I talk a little more about how, what and why in my support letter.

Why Water?

What if this was your boys? That’s what I thought looking at this. I have 2 boys and these kids don’t look much older than my oldest. I couldn’t image my son having to walk hours everyday to collect water…dirty water!

And that’s all they have to drink!!! I will confess, I don’t think I wouldn’t let my boys bathe in that water these boys are collecting to drink.

The statistics are overwhelming to say the least.

* 37,800 children under 5 years old DIE EVERY WEEK from preventable diseases contracted from unsafe water and unhygienic living conditions.

* Every year (in Africa) women and children spend 40 billion hours walking miles to the nearest water source like the one the kids are at in the picture – unprotected and likely to make them sick.

I saw this quote on a picture:

“Where you are born should not decide whether you have access to clean water.”

Help us FIGHT to eliminate these current realities of unclean water and sickness for Malawi kids and their families. Join the Kuvina team TODAY. To find out how you can help visit:

Kuvina!

It’s time to DANCE! I’m posting this morning about this AMAZING event coming up. More details will be coming soon – Kuvina. You can also register to attended via FB events.

We are never too young to change the world!

Kuvina: kids + art = LIFE for Malawi

What: An Art Fair that is raising money to build a well in Nkhoma, Malawi

When: Saturday, June 26th, 2010 @ 3pm

Where: Newsong Irvine in The HUB

Why you should get involved: Because our kids should have the chance to make a difference in the life of other kids. They should know that they are NEVER too young and that they ALWAYS something to give that can CHANGE THE WORLD for good.

Kuvina means “to dance” in the Malawian native language –Chichewa.

Kuvina is an opprotunity for kids to make a difference in other kids lives in a fun and tangible way. For every Sunday in month of May kids in Noah’s Place will be partnered with an artist to create pieces of art. Then on Saturday, June 26th @ 3pm they will host “Kuvina: An Art Fair” where their art will be on display and auctioned off. The money that is brought in will build a water well for the families in Nkhoma, Malawi (the village we support through Y-Malawi). It costs $6,200 to build a well and the goal is to raise this whole amount.

So parents, SAVE THE DATE! Invite friends and family to come see the amazing art these kid(s) have created. This is a great chance for kids to see how they can use their “normal days events” to make a lasting change in the lives of others. Their will be a “sneak preview” of some of the art pieces on Father’s Day in the HUB.

A deep well can bring new health and life to a village. When drilling teams strike water, entire villages erupt in celebration because a clean water source can cut a community’s child mortality rate in half.
Help kids “to dance” – KUVINA – and celebrate new life with the community of Nkhoma, Malawi!
